Russian writer L.N. Tolstoy is a recognized classic in world and domestic literature. War and Peace is his most famous work. This is a masterpiece novel in the classical literature of Russia and the world. However, in structure it is completely different from the classical work. At the heart of the composition there is no social or love confrontation, love triangle, etc. inherent in all classical works. The novel equally combines and reveals both the personal, private life of its main characters, and scenes from the history of society during the war with Napoleon.
Even after centuries, every reader finds in the pages of the novel what excites his soul.

Volume I completely immerses us in the microclimate of the life of the elite of the XIX century. The secular part of the life of the high society of those times is revealed in detail. Shown are balls in St. Petersburg and Moscow, evenings in the house of the maid of honor Scherrer A.P. The microclimate in the personal life of the main characters of the novel is also not disregarded. The relationship between children and parents in the Rostov family is described. The scenes of courtship in the Bolkonskys' house are revealed, their life under the influence of a cruel and despotic father, Prince Andrei. Relationships and intrigues in the Bezukhov family associated with the struggle for inheritance. Marriage of Pierre Bezukhov's heir to Helen.

The historical scenes of the novel begin in 1805, when Russia supported Prussia and Austria in the battles against Napoleon. The decisive battle takes place near Austerlitz.
Volume II brings us to the events of 1812. The outbreak of the war, the lost battle of Austerlitz, the main characters of the work, the ups and downs in their lives completely immerse us in the events of that time. Here are Andrei Bolkonsky's feelings about the untimely death of his wife on the day of childbirth, and the first appearance of Natasha Rostova, her first ball, nascent feelings for Andrei, who soon proposed to her. However, the engagement is soon terminated through the intrigues of Anatoly Kulagin and Andrei's sister.
Bezukhov's new heir, Pierre, despite the unexpectedly fallen inheritance, is completely disappointed in marriage. His feelings are described that he cannot make happy either himself or those close to him.
At the same time, the war is approaching the Russian border...

Volume III shows historical actions since 1812. The Russian army retreats, the surrender of Vitebsk, Smolensk, the battles near Borodino, burning Moscow... all military battles and episodes are described here in great detail and intertwined with the fate of the main characters. Volume III shows how the worldview of people is changing. Just yesterday, the main characters are a carefree elite, unsuccessfully looking for meaning in this life. Today they, realizing their duty to the fatherland and the people, go to war.

In one of the battles, one of the main characters Andrei Bolkonsky is mortally wounded. Young Rostova takes care of him.

Volume IV describes the events since August 1812. Together with the first part, it seems to frame the two military parts of the novel, the first and second volumes, show the relationship between peace and war, not only on the battlefields, but also in the personal lives of the main characters of the work.

Beginning in the second half of 1812, Napoleon retreated. He leaves Moscow. There is a battle near Tarutino. At the same time, social life, despite the hostilities, is in full swing: balls are given, performances are shown in theaters, gossip is blooming. Andrei Bolkonsky dies. However, in addition to this, in the life of the main characters there are many joyful events. Pierre Bezukhov returns from the war, feelings flare up between him and Natasha. Love also flares up between Nikolai Rostov and Maria Bolkonskaya. Natasha and Pierre, Nikolai and Maria will soon get married (in the Epilogue).
The epilogue of the novel can be considered one of the most important parts of the novel, here the author discusses the interconnections of human lives, the author, as it were, sums up the work, once again confirming the importance of spiritual unity between people.

You can download the audiobook "War and Peace" on our website, or listen to all four parts online. This is an exciting work that will not leave anyone indifferent.
